The human element
I am a happily married mother of two who came to the UK some 5 years ago. Having been forced to immigrate (for both political and economic reasons) from the Southern African country of my birth. We landed in the UK with two suitcases, a two year old and my yet to arrive youngest showing signs of imminant arrival. Our wordly posessions having been sold to purchase the one way tickets to a new life, we found ourselves landing here with a princely sum of £1500 - a vast amount of money where we came from, but not a lot when faced with putting down deposit and advance rentals. A plentiful supply of water has since flowed under our bridge and we are now happily settled in Cambridgeshire.
Like all reasonable ideas, our site stemmed from our initial contact with UK retailers. Having not grown up in this country and having come from one that was (and still is) suffering from a distinct lack of product availability, even the local corner shop had me in awe as to the products, prices and choice. With an enforced price awareness, we found that by preparing a list of essentials and then walking from shop to shop, we could cut the price of our weekly shop by as much as 20% or £20 pounds in the 100. The drawback of this was it did take us a whole day and in this busy environment, is not alway practical.
So we bought a computer.
Forgive us the naiivity of believing that we could find exactly what we wanted at the best price possible with a click of the mouse. Many others encounter the abrupt learning curve as they find hundreds of thousands of 'results' to their latest search, and thus, we entered the swamp of the world wide web. Our knowledge of the UK retailers was so limited that we did not even have the basic idea of where to start - so we decided to build up a database of the websites as we encountered them. Our 'favourites' grew, which were then catalogued into folders, and then folders were put into folders until....... we couldn't find what we we were looking for anyway!!!  As our life and, quite frankly, our whole financial output centres around the house, we started copying and pasting weblinks onto a Lotus spreadsheet and found that by classing suppliers by the most appropriate rooms, we could find them again when required. As coincidences and luck should play a part in all success stories, my  gainfully (over) employed better half decided to learn something new during his two weeks leave and decided that web design would be of interest. With great enthusiasm and little knowledge, he decided to make room on the computer (for more games) by putting our 'favourites' onto a web page. In doing this, he found that quite a number of companies were willing to allow their advertising and products to be displayed on the site through various affiliations and hence the homeshoppingmall was born.
I obviously hope that you find this site as useful as we do and although not entirely aestheticaly pleasing it is functional - my husband does try!.. (or is he very trying?).
Anyway, we obviously hope that you will add our site to your favourites and use us as your 'portal to purchases', after all the success story remains unwritten until your recommendation goes out to your friends !!

About Home Shopping Mall
If you have been one of the many internet users who have found that searching for particular products brings up thousands of results which make the search a long and time consuming process (often resulting in failing to find exactly what you were looking for), then you will really appreciate this site.
We are affiliated to some of the UK's leading online retailers and have catalogued their products within easily recognisable product groups.
There are currently three different ways of searching this site -
                                               1) Browsing our virtual mall which is a floor plan of the average house. This will link to the different rooms with further links to actual items pertinant to that room - after all, the vast majority of internet related searches are for items and services which relate to the home or home life.                                                2) Browse our index where we have listed the product groups available. Follow the links to the products concerned. Go to our               index               to start this search.
                                               3) If you are a deal hunter and want to find out what specific deals each of our listed retailers are promoting, we have gathered their promotional advertisments onto their own page. This is updated with each promotional change and will definately help you keep up with current deals. Go to our              deal page         to start this search. (Do not click on the banner shown in here, but instead, follow our link to the appropriate page).
